PINK IS THIS SUMMER’S FLAVOR

Summer begins tomorrow, even though it feels as though summer has been hanging out with us all throughout the spring.

As you know, spring is perfect for bright colors. It’s when you can pull out all of your favorite bold prints, patterns, and everything else that matches what spring blossoms. But unlike the fall, you don’t have to change out those bold colors, prints and patterns for deeper tones just to match the season.

The summer is perfect for much of your spring wardrobe. However, it’s not all about putting on the first bright color you see, it’s all about choosing the perfect color shade. It doesn’t matter whether you decide to go with a warmer or softer shade of your favorite bold colors.

When picking your perfect shade, you have to find those colors that compliment you and your skin tone. There are a few major shades of pink that are in for the 2014 season. Watermelon and Fuchsia are two shades that are considered to be warm shades. The softer shades that are in include powder pink, carnation pink and pink nude.

The awesome thing about finding your perfect shade of pink is that you can accessorize it with just about any color. It doesn’t matter whether you wear a softer shade or a warmer shade, pink will look good with many shades of yellows and greens and will also look amazing with honey, ivory, and lavender this season.

In this week’s Style File I created two different boards that show how pretty pink is with different prints and colors. In the board above, I paired a pretty hot pink skirt with a green, white and gold printed crop top. I brought this look together with green and gold earrings, a hot pink ring, and a honey colored handbag with matching heels.

In the board below, I found this pretty fuchsia Neoprene Flounced dress and matched it with a bold teal and added accents of gold in between. Adding the boldness of teal easily turned this pretty pink dress into a flirty oasis.

THE BADDIE LOOK: SPRING IS COMING!

I know. It’s been a long time since I’ve given you all your weekly, ‘The Baddie Look’ but here it is!

Spring is here, and the weather isn’t sure what it wants to do. Here are three different looks that are sure to have you looking Baddie no matter the weather.

A. Pink Me Please

When has gold and pink not looked good together? These colors compliment each other, and always bring out your skin’s natural beauty. Put a pair of light wash girlfriend jeans, a gold crop bustier, an all white blazer with gold accents, and gold pumps on, and you’re solid. Add statements of pink to your look through your purse, and makeup. With this look keep your makeup natural and pretty as you have enough bold pieces, and you don’t want to over-due your look.

B. Spring Lovin’

The weather may be unsure of its self, but you don’t have to be unsure of your outfits! Be bold with your color choices. Yellow is always perfect for spring. Crop tops are fun, and you can add a pretty and bright jacket as one of your statement pieces. These pretty pastel Giuseppe heels are the perfect color addition to this look, bringing out one of the many colors in this beautiful Ted Baker print jacket. Don’t go over-board with your accessories, you don’t want to appear too gaudy, but do play up your make-up.

C. Diamond Rose

This is a look put together for the working girl, church girl, or for the perfect date night. It shows just enough, and has class for days. Because this look is very neutral, you can have fun with your accessories. Go red! Red nail polish. Red lip. Red bottoms (lol). Go BIG! Add earrings, bracelets, and a necklace to enhance your look, and give you that girly feel and you’re perfect.

PLUS SIZE DIVAS IN RARE AND “NFINITE FORM”

Paula Michelle and Trese’ don’t take it lightly when they say they want to take over the world – even Hollywood supports their movement. What are they after? A revolution for the woman who has been overlooked in society…the plus-sized woman.

It’s time to reinvent that woman, and this is just the mother-and-daughter duo for the job. I recently chatted with Paula about their Nfinite Form line of clothing. (Trese was unavailable for comment.)

Kyra: What do you all take the most pride in concerning your company, Nfinite Form?

Paula: I would have to say making women feel special, because this is what I find missing in today’s society. We do not get that special factor; we’re just not made to feel special by society. Trese and I take great pride in bringing that specialness to women in general.

Kyra: Tell me about the support you have gotten from Hollywood and the black community. I know actor Lamman Rucker participated in your New Jersey Full Figured Fashion Week.

Paula: When our models saw the lineup and caliber of stars that we had at the fashion shows, they felt really motivated by these talented individuals supporting them. The grand opening of our store was phenomenal; it was packed beyond capacity. The black community believes in what we believe in, that plus-size women should not be outcast.

Kyra: What is your perspective on promoting health for women, while simultaneously promoting self love and confidence in full-figured women?

Paula: We published an article defining “full-figured”, because society misunderstands. We embrace being full-figured; however, we have also given attention to reducing blood pressure, better diets and lower cholesterol. We will provide research and mentorship to help women be healthy.

Kyra: This goes deeper than apparel. What is your holistic message to women?

Paula: It starts with the mind. The mind is a very powerful muscle, but there are a lot of weak women because their self- esteem is low. You have to know your worth. You cannot begin to work on the body or the soul if the mind is not strong. It starts in the mind.

Kyra: How did you and your daughter begin Nfinite Form? You have a degree in English, and your daughter has a degree in childhood education. How did this translate?

Paula: All of us in our family are plus-sized women, but I’m a fashonista and my daughter Trese has a passion for teaching. We recognized that plus-sized women were not being portrayed as beautiful, and we wanted to make an impact. We combined our creativity, teaching backgrounds and fashion sense and created Nfinite Form. We wanted to show the sensuality of the plus-size woman and put her back into society where she belongs!

Kyra: Wow! You are really passionate about your business! When is the next runway project?

Paula: Yes, we live and breathe it. We are getting ready for Time Square Fashion Week and we will showcase the plus-size women with the smaller-size women — no runway segregation.

Kyra: So where do you see your company going in the future?

Paula: We want to take Nfinite Form to all fashion shows around the world — London, Paris. Our vision is to take over the world. We want the plus-size woman to be recognized globally, and we are the women to do it!

HEY GIRL: STRUT LIKE THE BADDIE YOU ARE!

Heels never go out of season, so it’s always important to know how to walk in them.

I wear heels just about everyday, and I often get asked “Girl, how do you walk in those heels all day?” I sometimes get comments about if my feet hurt, and I’ve even been asked if walking in heels is really hard. So of course I decided to write a post on walking in heels! I don’t have any innovative tips, because walking in heels is a learned skill. You can’t just put heels on and BAM! you can walk like Naomi Campbell. Its levels to this. To be successful in walking in heels you have to first have confidence.

So, with these few basic tips, that are below, you should be able to find the confidence you need to strut your stuff in the baddest heels, no matter how high or skinny the heel is.

BUY THE RIGHT SIZE: This seems simple enough, but women have the hardest time buying shoes in the right size. Do not try on one shoe, and not even get up. Also, do not try on a heel, and walk in that one heel to the mirror. That does not give you a good idea if it fits. When you go to the store try both shoes one, and see how they fit. Walk to the mirror in both heels, and then determine if they are a good fit.

START SMALL: If you are just starting out, don’t go for the sexy six-inch heel. You will fall, because you won’t be able to walk in them–at least not confidently, and a confident walk is everything to a Baddie’s Strut. This doesn’t mean you have to start with a one or two-inch heel–that isn’t baddie at all. This means go for a three or four-inch heel, and make sure the actual heel is not skinny, but thick. A thicker heel will help you to balance, and help you get comfortable wearing a skinnier heel.

PLACE ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER: Walk as though you are walking a straight line for an officer. When you put one foot in front of the other it aligns your figure. This gives your figure that hourglass look, like a goddess. Walking in a straight line also give your hips a new rhythm. You will instantly have a sexy hip sway that models are known for.

TAKE SMALL STEPS: Don’t expect to take long strides as if you’re walking barefoot. Walking in heels take time, so be careful. Do not be in a rush, but walk to your own tempo. This will also help you in pacing yourself, and making sure that you don’t miss a step.

PRACTICE: With everything practice is an essential part to becoming successful. Essentially that is what you are doing when you are breaking your heels in. So if you want to strut like the baddest you must practice. Walk on carpet, concrete, and slippery hardwood. You can watch videos, and read posts like these all day; however, if you don’t practice, you won’t be any good at it.

BREAK THEM IN: How do you break shoes in? Wear them! Not outside, wear them all around the house. Wear them when you are cooking, doing your makeup, vacuuming, washing dishes, walk up and down the stairs, and all of that.  It doesn’t matter if you aren’t completely comfortable in them, that is what breaking them in is for. Nobody will see you if you trip or stumble trying to get used to them. Better to stumble in the house, rather than out on a date.

CARRY FLATS: This is more than a tip, this is the most important rule when it comes to wearing heels. Heels do a number on your feet, and we want to stay away from blisters, and corns. Flats are blister and corn prevention. When your heels began to rub your feet the wrong way, it is okay to trade in your heels for flats. Keep a pair in your car, or purse if they can fit.

These are just a few tips to help you get your Baddie Strut started.

Give me some of your best advice for walking in heels?
