Standing On The Sun In San Juan

Colorful…Eclectic…

Fresh air…Cool breeze…Clear water…

That’s the only way I can express the beauty of this Island.

I had less than twenty hours to see the world around me, and San Juan was where my travels brought me. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew there would be plenty of water, and even more sun.

My first time in Puerto Rico was sure to be fun, and when we landed and I walked into my hotel room for the evening I couldn’t wait until morning to go on my own little adventure.

But first, I had to make it through the night. The air felt like silk running across my skin. It was humid, but it was like the perfect amount of humidity. I turned off the air in the room and opened my balcony door to bring in the fresh air. Everyone talked about how they slept with their doors open, but I wasn’t on that level, because I had already seen the lizards San Juan had to offer, and I didn’t want them thinking they were welcomed inside my room. Needless to say, right before I went to sleep the balcony door was closed, and I slept peacefully.

The sun wasted no time in rising and shinning bright. I was up at six looking around my room for understanding. Especially since I had just went to bed at two a.m. I looked out on my balcony and people had already started their days. I felt like I was late to the party. It was truly beautiful outside.

I was asked this question a lot once I got back home. I took my time roaming the city around me. I tried to be as careful as possible because I knew I looked liked either a tourist, or extreme photographer holding my cameras, lenses and such.

I went out around ten that morning, and the city seemed so peaceful. Many people were heading to the beach, children played at the local playground, and I saw young men practicing their sports. It was like a normal day in the neighborhood, and it was nice to people watch.

What to wear?

I wouldn’t pack any jeans. Only shorts, breathable shirts, skirts, and maxi dresses. Also be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen. The sun here will burn you and have no regrets about it.

Shoes! Every girl loves sandals, but if you plan to do some walking pack a good shoe with arch support. Leave the sandals for the beach. I walked around in my cute sandals, and the bottom of my feet felt raw after about a half hour of walking. Learn from my mistakes, wear your good shoe around the city and your sandals for the beach. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Lastly, San Juan is a part of America, so their currency is American. That was another question I kept getting. Puerto Rico is so Americanized, you may clutch your imaginary pearls. I saw the Coach Outlet, Marshalls, Burger King and Fogo De Choa. Yup. Yup, I did! I felt right at home.

My time in the San Juan Islands was delightful. I wish I could have gone snorkeling or kayaking *sigh* maybe next time.  If you ever find yourself hanging out in the islands come back and let me know about your experience. 🙂

Being one to uplift women, her special guest was Harpo Studios Associate Producer, Brett Jeffries. Jeffries spoke about how important “dressing” is in Corporate America. She also explained how dressing professionally helped her to become an associate producer at Harpo Studios at the young age of 26.

This is what the Style and Brand Agency of Atlanta is all about!

I was able to speak to Mrs. Moore about her agency, and she told me about her stepping out of her comfort zone and starting her agency in a new city.

At a young age, she was a victim of molestation. After the incident, she became a victim of the rumor mill, where it was said that she brought on her abuse through the way she was “dressed.” However, she refused to become bitter and took control of her own life, and the lives of others by bringing awareness to their image. She promotes positive body image and gives women power through style.

Syleena was very excited about her BET premiere; she was all smiles, and a few tears too! For the event, Syleena was surrounded by plenty family members, friends, and a few fans. Hosted at Nancy’s pizza in Midtown Atlanta, there was plenty of food and drinks to celebrate all of the hard work that was put into making this musical as awesome as it was.

Happy Syleena!

Afterwards, it was all about fellowship and showing love. Of course the night wouldn’t have been complete without Syleena showing love for  Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

NOVEL NEWBIE? 4 MUST READ BOOKS!

Most people know me as a bookworm. I love a good book. Honestly, I have read it all, and I truly mean every genre you can think of, I have read a book from it.

I’m that friend who can’t read a book before the movie comes out. My friends hate when I read a book, and then the movie comes out, and the movie usually doesn’t meet my expectations. They’ve already told me that when Zane’s Addicted comes to theater’s, they won’t be going with me.

Baddie, GIrl, Basics, Reads, Read, Mary, Monroe, Noire, Terry, McMillian, Zane, Afterburn, God, Don't, Like, Ugly, Series, G-Spot, Amazon, Books, Waiting, To, Exhale, Club, Interesting, Novel, Summer,Even though my friends make jokes about me being a book junkie, they never hesitate to send their other friends my way, or ask for themselves when they are looking for a good read. So here are my top four books I tell everybody to read. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a summer read, or just something to read in between time. One of these books will be great for you and your reading needs.

God Don’t Like Ugly-Mary Monroe

This book is the start to an amazing six-part series. I first saw this book at my middle school’s book fair. I was in the seventh grade, and while most of the girls my age were eye-deep in Omar Tyree’s Fly Girl, I was eye-deep in the world-wind of a life for Annette Goode. The awesome thing about Mary Monroe’s writing style is that she paints pictures. As you began to read more into any book of hers you began to feel as if you know her characters. I promise if you start this book today, you will want to complete the entire six-part series.

G-Spot: An Urban Erotic Tale-Noire

This book will go down as one of the BEST urban books I have ever read. This is that book you read in a day, or that book that is such a page turner, you slow down while reading to make sure you aren’t missing anything. **DISCLAIMER** This book is not for the faint of heart. Juicy endured some horrific punishments. Not to mention this is still an erotica, so there are some graphic sex scenes. In short, this isn’t a book for your church’s book club, or any book club in my opinion. It’s just a good personal read.

Afterburn-Zane

Queen of erotica’s, Zane showed out with this book. I’ve read just about all of her books, and out of all of those that I have read, Afterburn is my favorite. She did no wrong with this book, even though things don’t end on a positively. Unlike any of her other books, Rayne and Yardley had a true love story. Zane’s writing makes you connect with Rayne on a moer personal level, and you instantly want to see her do well. So much for a tragic ending. This book is perfect for a book club.

Waiting To Exhale-Terry McMillian

We’ve all seen the movie and loved it, but how many of us actually read the book? I DID! They did a great job with making the movie’s character’s fit the story-book’s characters. Of course the movie omitted certain thins; therefor, making the book  more detailed. But as you read you can see each character unfold just as in the movie. TerryMcMillian writing style in this book is very sisterly. This too is a page turner, and you will instantly love all of those ladies more than you already do.

What I’m currently reading: Tempted by Trouble by Mr. Eric Jerome Dickey

If you have read any of these books comment below, and tell me which book you enjoyed reading the most!

EVENT RECAP! CHRISETTE MICHELLE & MARSHA AMBROSIUS “FATHER’S DAY EXPLOSION

Last weekend, I was blessed to cover the father’s day explosion concert headlining Chrisette Michelle and Marsha Ambrosius, in Montgomery, Al. Hosted by Ms. Talesa J. Harris, and Lauren Walker.

Honestly, going into this concert, I was a bit biased. I absolutely love Chrisette Michelle, and I love to see her perform live. To me, her voice is stunning, so you can imagine who I was really there to see. It was beautiful that in the essence of Father’s Day, Chrisette’s father introduced her. It was good to see that father-daughter love. As Chrisette began to sing, she gave an amazing heart-warming performance. When she sings, she speaks to your soul, kind of like Ledisi. She sang some of her classics, like “Blame It On Me” and some of her newer songs like “10 Foot Stilettos.”

This was my first time seeing Marsha Ambrosius perform live, but she has a slew of songs that I am a fan of, dating back to her Floetry days. She sang everything too! From “Getting Late,” “Say Yes,” “Late Nights & Early Mornings,” and my favorite “Hope She Cheats on You.” When Marsha hit the stage she owned it in a different way. It was like girl talk through music. It was good seeing her in her element. She was amazing as she went from singing, to playing her keyboard, to dancing. She truly had fun on stage and her energy flowed throughout the entire room! Honestly, I would love to see Marsha perform again. She gave life in her performance.

Both of these ladies were inspirational in their performances, and those in attendance can co-sign me on that one.
